Liposuction
Liposuction is a surgical intervention in which the fat accumulated in different body parts removes. This procedure is a technique to shape the body by eliminating more fatty tissue and sometimes even re-injecting some of it into areas where it may be necessary.
Liposuction intervention performs under local, epidural, or general anesthesia, depending on the situation. It consists of placing a special cannula or syringe connected to the vacuum machine that allows the fat in the problem area to absorb into the fatty tissue. It lasts a few hours. This makes it necessary to replace it with intravenous fluids.
In Which Areas can Liposuction Perform?
Liposuction can perform on any part of the body with localized fat:
- Abdominal liposuction: This type of intervention is usually most common among patients, both men and women, as it is a highly prone area for adipocyte accumulation. An inconspicuous small incision makes where the cannula is inserted for this surgery. This way, the fat melts and is vacuumed with an air machine.
- Waist or side liposuction: This liposuction site indicates fat in the hip’s upper part. Abdominal surgery or Tummy Tuck combines with this procedure.
- Liposuction on the thigh: Thanks to this liposuction, the fat cells in areas such as cartridge belts, inner thighs, inner knees, and the banana region, which is the subgluteal region, are reduced.
- Arm liposuction: This type of intervention doesn’t require large amounts of fat removal and uses a more sophisticated cannula than others, such as abdominal or lateral liposuction. If this arm liposuction surgery completes with an arm lift, it may be an excellent solution to remove sagging and sagging skin over time or due to weight changes.
- Double chin liposuction or submental fat is one of the most demanded areas because fat tissue accumulation under the chin is quite common. A smaller cannula is used, as in the facial areas.
- Inguinal liposuction is one of the most requested intimate surgeries. It significantly reduces the volume of the inguinal region with liposuction of the venus hill.
- Reverse or ascending Tummy Tuck: In these Tummy surgeries, excess skin finds in the area above the navel. This unites the breasts and gives the advantage of increasing their size.
Who are Ideal Candidates for Liposuction?
Thanks to the effects of liposuction, the doctor can remove the fat accumulated in different parts of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, arms, and jowl. The specialist re-injects this fat into areas of the body that you may need. However, it would be best if you didn’t forget that processis an intervention that serves to model your silhouette or figure; it is never a treatment for weight loss. This procedure is for people of average weight according to their body structure.
Best candidates for liposuction are people with healthy, average weight and localized excess fat. It is also essential for the skin to be firm and elastic to achieve good aesthetic results. Otherwise, it cannot adapt to the new contour, and there will be flaps that need to be corrected later with plastic surgery. This procedure indicates for people with circulatory, heart, or respiratory problems.
Liposuction Procedure
Preparation
As with any surgical procedure, a prior medical examination is necessary to detect a possible anomaly. Thus, our specialist will inform you about the areas you will treat so that you will clarify your expectations. If you smoke, you should stay away from tobacco for at least two weeks before and after the operation, as smoking causes poor healing in these cases. On the other hand, if you’re taking any medication, you should inform the surgeon before the operation.
Anesthesia
If the procedure isn’t very comprehensive, that is, if the amount of fat to remove doesn’t exceed the amount that your plastic surgeon thinks according to your health, body size, and surgery, it can perform with local anesthesia. General anesthesia is preferred if your plastic surgeon plans to perform large-area liposuction or treat several different areas.
Recovery After Liposuction
- After surgery, the doctor may place drainage tubes under the skin for 2 to 3 days to reduce the chance of fluid buildup. In addition, the surgeon places an elastic bandage over your treated area to control swelling and bleeding and to help the skin adapt to the new contour. You should wear this in a few more weeks, usually 2 or 3 weeks later, depending on your plastic surgeon’s instructions.
- You may have swelling, bruising, and burning sensations in your liposuction areas. Pain can be relieved with medications prescribed by your plastic surgeon.
- It isn’t uncommon to feel a little depressed in the first days or weeks after surgery; know that this is normal and will ease as it heals.
- Healing is a gradual process. Your plastic surgeon will tell you to start walking as soon as possible but not to do any strenuous activity for 2 to 4 weeks.
- Stitches will remove in 5 to 10 days, and you can return to work 2 or 3 days after the intervention or at least two weeks, depending on the scope of liposuction and your surgeon’s recommendations.
- Swelling and bruises disappear in the first 1-2 months after liposuction; however, minimal swelling may persist for six months or longer.
How Long Does It Take to See Liposuction Results?
Liposuction results will be progressive. However, since enough fat takes to start noticing a more stylized figure, you can see the first effects immediately, but you will have to wait a little longer to see the precise results.
Initially, the skin of the treated area will appear saggier as it will need to tighten to adapt to the new body contour. This process may take more or less time from person to person, but it takes about six months for the skin to tighten.
